A Bit About Me

Anthony J. Butkovich
BFA, Visual Communication
Southwest Texas State University
San Marcos, TX
Anthony J. Butkovich was born in Houston, Texas. The son of a military veteran, his family moved around the country and the world following his father’s career. Through this rich experience of living and traveling the globe to such seemingly different places such as Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and across the east, west, and southern U.S., Anthony developed a keen eye and sensitivity to nature, people, their customs and icons – and the incredible similarities consistent in every culture. Throughout his lifelong travels, Anthony has kept a mental as well as visual record of his journey. These experiences, rich with texture, color, and emotion are expressed in his work as an artist.

Anthony's Work
His work is approachable and vibrant with its combination of colors and shapes in fluid motion, gently hinting at a world beyond mere perception, into the realms of imagination. Often described as whimsical, there’s a humor and depth to his work that catches people by surprise, drawing them in with every glance, where they often find new ways to interpret and interact with his pieces. It has been said that, “to look at his paintings is like dreaming with open eyes.”
In addition to his fine art, Anthony’s work includes editorial, architectural, and commercial projects. His versatile style and skill set lends itself easily to a variety of media, uses and formats – from digital and print work on corporate identity pieces, iconography and brand marks to narrative, editorial illustrations used in (print and digital) magazines and newspapers to murals that can be found in museums and hospitals as well as in private homes.
